Further updates following a play-test. I am now confident that the core game is basically ballenced. The Ogres, Halflings and Priests still need a proper look at though.

v3.4 is up. Just wanted to get that out of the door so I feel productive in spite of ill-health.

V3.5 will include stuff based on gootschute's notes and more balanced Ogres & Halflings.

V3.5 is up, much sooner than expected.

Everything should be complete and broadly balanced now.

I've put V4.0 up. I'm *much* happier with this now, it's really all coming together.

Utterly awesome game last night. I was in tears with laughter at several points.

I think I've fixed several things that where causing problems in long-term play balance now too! It's just as it should be: the players feel like they have a decent chance, but it'll be hard work getting there!

Just need to sort out another couple of Hero models for next time...

Latest version is up, after last night's epic game. Numbers are much closer to where they should be.

If anyone is still watching, another update is live. Numbers are pretty perfect this point. Hope to have Bestiary and adjustments to Quests up soon.

I'd love to download your work, as I've recently gotten a copy of AHQ for my birthday, but where can I get it? Can't find it on your website.

oh and does your revision include Terror in the Dark?

Link to the original AHQ resources
And a link to my slightly touched up version of the Terror in the Dark package, with tiles and booklets.

Public files are here:

If you have the original stuff, that's all you need. With GW's lawyers I can't share anything else, especially not a rebuilt and integrated rule book.

Thanks, all I did was bundle all the resources and add some covers to see where the different chapters begin Smiley
I've also gathered all the WHQ resources I could find on my DropBox. Read the HQ blog for instructions.

Dear Slev,
Hah wow... I'm incredibly impressed with your modifications. †I am both fascinated and excited that people are still playing and enjoying these games. †I played AHQ many years ago and just recently acquired it (along with HQ). †I've been pestering the guys over at YeOldeInn for ways to make my first game have some impact with my gaming group and to keep the campaign rolling... †I replaced all of the miniatures with more modern, better sculpted models (mostly Dark Sword and newer GW bad guys) and I bought some extra tiles for my part.

Your ruleset is a lot to digest but the more I read the more I like it and the more I think I will have to use some/or/all of it.

Are the other schools of magic entirely your own design? ...I never played WHQ or WFB so I have no other references. † Do you suggest allowing new players to be able to choose from any of the schools of magic for their wizard/mage?

Also, is it an oversight that the Dwarven Race path is only allowed WarHammers and not Axes/Double-handed-Axes? ...most of the Dwarf models come with an axe so I found this curious. †Or do the basic/adv paths trump the racial paths for equipment allowed?

I was also a little confused as to how the revised Monster Matrix works... I've collected most of the monsters listed in the original game and some undead badies because they seem very dungeon like to me; so I certainly plan to create my own Monster Matrix but I'd like to know more what you had in mind here...

Your tables are really impressive too by the way.

Finally, I was looking for some advice for a new GM (me) with a new group. †A few have played HQ as youths and one plays RPGs, but we have played just 40k/Infinity together for years now. †

I went searching for some simple fixes for the combat-door-bottle-neck issue and the insufficient Player-Character selection and found your ruleset. †Do you think it would break things to pick and choose certain modifications from your set? †Like a "lite" version haha... †With everyone being new I didn't want to change too much but for certain I didn't want players to have to pick crummy characters and I wanted to avoid static/boring combat. † Suggestions?

Anyway, thanks for everything you have done and are doing... this is some great stuff!!

Thx dude.

While I designed the content of the other four Colleges of Magic, they, like the original four, are based on GW's eight Colleges from their Warhammer background.  Each college is designed to be balanced, but have a different feel. theoretically, you can pick any and have fun. That said, they do need some playtesting.

Later paths are additive. So if your Dwarf takes a path that allows axes, they can use axes on top of the equipment they already have.

The Monster Matrix system and the Bestiary work together. You can build a matrix and set of Monster tables based on your collection and/or the dungeon theme. The results show the total PV of monsters, it's up to you to figure out what monsters they should be.

The path system is designed so that every build should be broadly equal. If you want to make things simpler for your first game, ask them what characters they want to play, and then build them in advance. That way, you don't have to teach them the game and building characters at the same time! That said, if they can handle 40k, they can likley handle this!

Thanks for the clarification Slev! Smiley ...I do have another question hah.  Searching for a better 'combat' is really what brought me here, but I am having trouble with the wording of this:
Quote:
Surprise
Surprise is now only rolled for after the GM
puts the figures on the table.
If the GM wins, the Heroes do not get to
move figures, and the Heroes skip their
first phase.
If the Heroes win, the GM does not get to
move figures AND the Heroes do get to
act in their first phase.

Ok so no matter what the GM places the monsters; got that, sounds good... Then it would seem that there is no scenario where _anybody_ gets a free move; is this correct?  So essentially Hero players, never touch a monster model?

Thanks again!
