Miniature Sites

Since we have a thread for tiles I thought it might be useful if we had a list of good miniature dealers. Mainly because my old favourite links disappeared when I moved computers (probley cause they where on the other computer). All I remember are these guys...

www.gamesworkshop.com
www.reapermini.com
www.heresyminiatures.com
http://www.solegends.com/citadel/]
http://www.imaginate.net/miniature_collecting_dealers.html
http://store.battleworks.net/
http://www.bluebon.net/victreas/exincastles.html
www.miniaturesatlas.com
http://www.shadowforge.com.au/products.html
http://www.ulgaard.homeip.net/Gorgone/Fenryll/Fenryll.asp
http://www.freebooterminiatures.de/
http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/main.asp
http://www.miniwargaming.com/http://www.crocodilegames.com/]http://www.crocodilegames.com/

I can update this list as people make suggestions, maybe Scratch or Lurch could make the thread sticky or pinned or whatever ya call it.

Ahh this takes me back, I have a lot of these old figures:
http://www.solegends.com/citadel/

But ones to buy:
http://www.imaginate.net/miniature_collecting_dealers.html
This site gives links to (all?) places to get hold of minis and has some very useful painting guides and tips, as well as some gorgeous looking painted figures.

Sorry I cant remember who to thank for that link, it may of even been from one of the old threads here!

Just came across this (no pun intended) and thought I would add it here:

G-bob wrote on 11/07/04 at 5:44pm:
This is the place that I get 'em from:

http://store.battleworks.net/

Look for the special sales too.

Here's a couple of interesting ones - the first is for castle construction kits, don't know how much use they'd be in HeroQuest, but they look awfully neat:

http://www.bluebon.net/victreas/exincastles.html

And the other is for the Games Workshop US storefront at
http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=Odd&odd=NewLayout&_do=...

Games Workshop's WarHammer miniatures line has several boxed sets of plastic miniatures that have a few advantages over their metal ones:  most notably, they're a lot less expensive than Games Workshop's metal minis!  Also, they're bulk sets for making armies, so you'll be getting a lot of individual minis that will look just close enough to each other to avoid a lot of confusion (the orcs will look unmistakably like orcs, the goblins will look like each other, different human factions will be recognizable, etc.).  Also, these boxed sets are actually "kits" which let you make customized miniatures:  most of the kits I saw give several different choices of heads and weapons, for example.  The boxed sets are generally US$30 each with usually about 16-24 miniatures  in each one, but in many cases it would be more practical and cost effective to order individual sprues with 4-5 mins on each one (which can easily be done!)  From what I saw, the coolest ones there were some of the human armies (Empire Militia, for example, had a bunch of scruffy pirate-looking fellows, and the various archers, men-at-arms, and knights were nothing to sneeze at either), the orcs and goblins (the Night Goblins in cloaks and hoods are great!), and the skeletons and zombies.  There were a couple of decent sets of Elves here and there, the Skaven, Saurus, and Skinks were interesting, and the Ogres that will supposedly be released in January look awesome!

Well, the GW plastic sets are less expensive than their metal minis, but they still aren't dirt cheap- looks like we're talking an average of about $1.50 or so a piece for most.  If you're looking for dirt cheap but not paper or goofy toys, it looks like breaking open some LionHeart, HeroQuest/AHQ/WHQ, and other older board games on E-Bay is about the only way to go that I can find.

While I'm thinking of it, TSR's "Dungeon!" boardgame has 6-8 royal purple plastic hero miniatures included in it... they're a tiny bit smaller than, and not quite as good as, the HeroQuest guys, but there is an interesting variety and I don't see them mentioned often in lists of boardgames to raid for improvised HeroQuest minis.  Need a thief or cleric miniature for a HeroQuest mod?  If I remember correctly, there's also the usual wizard and thief, and a couple of fighters, too.

Cheers,

Yron

Been awhile since I posted here, just added a new link for miniatures, based in Australia, so it will be good for NN and Lurch. I call it T&A Miniautres because they are mostly females with ... well they're T&A out. Some are abit more covered though.

It's even got some all female football teams in here that could be used for Bloodball and the other fantasy football game ... which I can't recall.

Bloody French, at least they make some decent mini's here and there.

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.ulgaard.homeip.ne...

Thats the translated link. If that doesn't work go here. http://www.ulgaard.homeip.net/Gorgone/Fenryll/Fenryll.asp

You can either stick it through google and translate it, but it's not to hard to navigate ... even saw some miniatures that appeared in some older white dwarf mags.

Hey Mort. Yeah I think theres a couple of miniature companies that do just females. Thats a good think I think, can't get enough good female models and GW females generally suck.. well er.. are not that good. I have had a bit of trouble painting female miniatures in the past I think. Not sure why, but none really turned out all that well.

Picked that one up from ComicJam, dutch(?) site though, but fairly easy to navigate, more T&A to make Naked Ninja nervous Wink

These are not warhammer mini's, but they do the job nicely for adding to things like heroquest are of pretty good quality and are very cheap. I think they are all metal too

Hope this site helps someone else too

They seemed cheap compared to GW sets. I bought a mini from them on ebay for 3 del. and they do sets for 8.50 some having 4-5 mini's a set, or 60 for a horde of mini's, the vikings have 60 in a horde, thats only a 1 per mini.

I thought it was pretty cheap anyway.

They are probably more expensive in the states because they are a uk based company and I expect p&p really bumps the price up on metal minis.

There "paint system" looks interesting but I really couldnt justify the cost.  I would rather buy a selection of single colours and do my own mixing for shading and highlights, hence reducing the cost by a third.

they just hat sort of an underhanded sales system, similar to GW.  All there sets are around 18 dollars us and that's okay for the ones that have 5 figures, but some only have like three figures, or one.  And when there are 5 in a pack you have to be willing to spend the 18 for all of them, no seperate blisters.

And on top of everything you can get the hordes, but they are completely random.

They are just almost completely user unfriendly...
